Comparison

FoodyOS vs Square for Restaurants.

Square is great for fast setup on Square hardware. FoodyOS gives you the same restaurant-shaped modules plus AI ordering on WhatsApp, with payments running through your own Stripe account at Stripe's published rates — no resold processing, direct payouts.

Square is the easy default for a single-location restaurant that wants to be live this afternoon — and it does that job well. Where it gets thinner is at the edges: AI on the channel your customer is actually using (WhatsApp), processor flexibility, and a kitchen-display experience that doesn’t feel like a paid afterthought.

FoodyOS is opinionated in those edges. We built the platform around the assumption that an independent operator wants AI answering the WhatsApp thread at midnight, wants direct ordering they own, and wants a KDS that’s first-class — not a tier-locked add-on.

When Square is the better choice

  • You want to be live in an afternoon and Square’s flat-rate processing fits your volume.
  • You operate a quick-service single location with simple needs.
  • You already use Square for retail and want a unified bill.

When FoodyOS is the better choice

  • You want AI ordering on WhatsApp as a first-class channel — not as a paid integration.
  • You want direct ordering on your own domain with checkout in your own Stripe account at Stripe’s published rates. (Today each restaurant runs as its own $149/mo account — native multi-location ownership is on our roadmap.)
  • You want a KDS that pulses red on stalled tickets and re-orders columns mid-shift, not a tier-locked add-on.
